About Us

Our Mission

The Vermont Theatre Company is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting the arts in the Brattleboro area. We maintain a policy of open auditions and are proud to introduce our audiences to new talent alongside seasoned performers. We offer high quality theater at affordable prices and shows that will entertain, provoke, and excite the imaginations of our diverse and discerning audience.

Our History

The Vermont Theatre Company was founded in Burlington, before being reestablished in Brattleboro in 1984 by Ray Jenness, the original Artistic Director and mastermind. VTC is proud of the productions it has presented in and around Brattleboro. Titles range from comedy to tragedy, contemporary to classic. VTC employs a wide variety of directors from the tri-state area, many of whom have extensive professional theater backgrounds.

In 1990, VTC produced Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and launched what has become an annual tradition of Shakespeare in the Park at the Rotary Club Amphitheater in Brattleboro's Living Memorial Park. Presented at the end of June, it has attracted hundreds of actors and thousands of picnickers over the years.

In 2022, VTC began a partnership with the Retreat Farm to further our community outreach with productions aimed at young audiences. Beginning with A Servent of Two Masters, a series of classics with lively characters and accessible stories has attracted hundreds of community members from babies to adults. We hope to revive the tradition of quality productions for children from the early years of our company.

Would you like to see your name here? We are always looking for a few great (we’ll even settle for good) people to serve on our board of trustees. Elections are held at our Annual Meeting & Gala every September. But don't wait until then! Contact us now.

Our Members

The Vermont Theatre Company membership is made up of the people who have participated in any of our shows within the last five years, either on stage or behind the scenes. Does that describe you? Congratulations, you're a member!

Members are invited and encouraged to attend our annual meeting each September, where we socialize over wine and cheese, review the past season, preview the coming season, and vote to approve new and returning board trustees.

Members are also invited to sit in on our monthly board meetings, if they are interested.
